Studio Policies

Attendance Policy

Because absences and tardiness can hold back an entire class, the studio will not jeopardize its responsibilities to the rest of the class for one student. Therefore, a minimum attendance level will be required from all students.

Recreational Dancers

If a recreational student has more than 5 unexcused absences during the dance year, the studio reserves the right to terminate the student‘s lessons. Students missing more than 3 classes after January may not be allowed to participate in the Annual Recital.

1. If a dancer misses more than 1 class in a month, the instructor reserves the right to rearrange the routine, shifting dancers out of specific positions if necessary.

2. If a dancer‘s absences occur at pivotal times, such as close to performance time, the instructor reserve the right to remove the dancer from a particular performance.

Competitive Dancers

A dancer on the competitive team is viewed as the more serious student, and as such, should have the lower absenteeism rate when compared to students in the studio‘s recreational program. Therefore… if a competitive student incurs 3 unexcused absences (2 lates = 1 unexcused absence) during the season, the studio reserves the right to dismiss the dancer from the affected class(es).

1. If a dancer misses more than 1 class in a month, the instructor reserves the right to rearrange the routine, shifting dancers out of specific positions if necessary.

2. If a dancer‘s absences occur at pivotal times, such as close to a performance, the instructor reserves the right to remove the dancer from a particular performance.

Please make every effort to attend each class as make-up classes are not an option due to limited dance room availability and time. There will be NO refund if the studio terminates lessons due to poor attendance.

Punctuality Policy

All students must arrive on time for each class. This does not mean they get to the studio at class time, it means they must enter the classroom completely ready to dance. Students, who are late for class, should enter the class quietly and then quickly find their place, so as not to disturb the class that is already in process.

Delayed Payment of Fees

As related to Fees with an "assigned payment due date", please note that delayed payments will result in additional charges to your account.  Any payment not received on time will be subject to a 10% surcharge.  If after an additional two (2) weeks, payment has still not been made, an additional 10% fee will be attached to the new balance.  Further delays will be charged at a weekly rate of 5%.

Fees with Payment Due Date: Competition Entry Fees, Costume Fees, Dancewear Purchases, etc.

Returned Cheque Policy

A $35.00 fee will be charged for any cheque that is not cleared by the issuer’s financial institution for any reason. This fee, along with the original cheque amount, is to be paid within seven (7) days of formal notification. Fees not paid within this period will be assessed a 15% late fee. (Re-payment must be made by money order, cashier’s cheque, or cash.) If after an additional two (2) weeks, payment has still not been made, an additional 10% fee will be attached to the new balance. Further delays, will be charged at a weekly rate of 5%.

Right To Refuse Policy

In Sequins reserves the right to refuse business to anyone. The studio also reserves the right to cancel the enrollment of a child for the following reasons:

  1. Non-payment or excessive late payment of fees.
  2. Not observing the rules and/or policies of the studio.
  3. Child has special needs that we cannot adequately meet with our current program.
  4. Physical and/or verbal abuse of instructors, staff or students, by parent or child.

Statutory Holiday Policy

Although we recognize and celebrate the meaning of each statutory holiday, we do not close the studio for all of them. We justify this decision based on the fact that we want to provide equal practice time to all of our classes throughout the dance year, and we do not, unfortunately, have the necessary studio space or time available to re-schedule.

Regular classes will not be held during the holiday season between Christmas and New Years, during the Easter Break or during Family Week in February. The specific closure dates will be determined using the Grasslands Public School Year Calendar as our guideline. There will be no reductions in tuition fees made due to months with holidays.

Studio Etiquette Policy

To our students - Mutual respect, between students and instructors, as well as between, the students and each other, is a must. Courtesy and good manners are expected and will be enforced. At no time will bullying, rudeness or gossiping be tolerated.

During class time, students are expected to pay attention to the instructor and maintain suitable composure for their age. A student, who fails to do so, will be dealt with in a manner consistent with his or her age and maturity. For the little ones, a time out spot in the corner of the studio will be used if the child acts out. Older students may be sent out of the classroom to sit in the waiting area. For students, who continue to disrupt class, parental involvement will be called upon.

To our parents - Please remind yourself that our studios are full of children, who look to us as role models, so as adults, we need to conduct ourselves in a respectful manner recognizing that youthful eyes are watching and wanting a positive and encouraging atmosphere. Please do not make disrespectful remarks about our staff, other dancers, other parents, or other studios while on our premises or at other related events. As we strive to uphold our promise to provide the very best for your child, we hope you will do the same by standing behind our program, and encouraging our children as they enjoy the art of dance. If gossip or negativity is something in which you are involved, we kindly ask that you leave it behind when you enter the studio and that in the privacy of your own homes, you make sure that little ears are not within hearing distance.

Student Placement Policy

Students will be placed according to a combination of factors including current level of ability, physical and emotional development, age, and class vacancy/availability. Please note, it may be necessary to place students, with little or no experience, in a class one level below their listed age group, or it may be determined, that an advanced student, should be placed in a higher-level class than age dictates. This same theory may also apply when deciding whether or not a dancer is ready to move from a recreational class to one that is competitive in nature. All placements will be based solely on the recommendation of the instructor/director.

Video/Photography Release Policy

As the student or parent/guardian of the student, be reminded that during the registration process, you accepted that any photographs or video recordings taken in the course of classes or performances may be used for public purposes including the studio’s website.

Waiver And Release Of All Claims Policy

As the student or parent/guardian of the student, be reminded that during the registration process you released and waived all claims against In Sequins… Studio of Dance Inc., and any or all of its employees, contractors, and volunteers for any liability including but not limited to, personal and bodily injuries (including death) and loss or damage of property of the student or persons related to the student, which may occur while participating in the activities, activities sponsored by, or in the physical building of In Sequins… Studio of Dance Inc. You represented that the student is in good health and does not have a history of a medical or physical condition (except those which were specified) that would place the student at risk because of his/her condition. You acknowledged that the student’s instruction involves physical exercise and physical stress that could result in the physical injury of the student, that the student’s involvement is voluntary, and that you accept all risks arising there from.

Withdrawal / Refund Policy

Hopefully, you will remain with the studio for the full dance year, and then again annually, thereafter. However, should you find it necessary to withdrawal, you must notify the studio in writing. If you do not give written notice, your account will continue to be charged until such a time as the formal notice has been received. If the withdrawal takes place before the refund deadline, your account will be reviewed, and if in good standing, a pro-rated refund will be issued. Non-attendance is NOT considered proper notice.

Registration fees are non-refundable, and in the event shoes, dance wear, or costumes have been ordered for the student, payment will still be required. The unused portion of the tuition fees will be refundable until October 31st for competitive students and until November 15th for those enrolled in the recreational program. A fee of $25.00 will be charged to process a single student withdrawal per class and an additional $50.00 fee will be retained per class, if the class was at capacity.

Refunds will not be given for days missed due to absences, holidays, or weather-related closings. Credit may be given in the event of a medical emergency. Situations such as this will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Under no circumstance will a transfer of fees be permitted.
