In Sequins… Studio of Dance is independently owned and operated. It opened in the Fall of 2005, in the City of Brooks, as a recreational dance studio. Since opening, it has been the studio of choice for hundreds of students living in the Centennial City and the County of Newell. It has also attracted several students and families from communities north of the Red Deer River and from the County of Vulcan.
In Sequins is located in Brooks, Alberta on the corner of Fairview Avenue and Second Street West. We have a spacious parking lot for our clientele and there is an adjacent side street that accommodates overflow parking when required. The building became our new home in the fall of 2011 after extensive renovations. The facility has three separate instruction studios, an open concept waiting/observation area, a student study nook, an office, two large washrooms – that also serve as change rooms, and a large prop and storage area. Each of the three studios measures approximately 1000 square feet and is equipped with its own sound system, full-length mirrored walls, dances barres, and flooring designed for athletic use. One-way viewing windows have been installed between the waiting/observation area and the studios to allow for parental observation.
The studio’s fulltime instructors have strong dance backgrounds with years of dance training, performing, auditioning, and competing. Senior instructors are professionally trained, educated and credentialed dancers with previous teaching experience. The intermediate instructors, although not professionally accredited, have the skill set, the experience, the patience, and the passion for dance that is a mandatory requirement to instruct at the studio. In addition to these positions, In Sequins also provides part-time teaching opportunities to youth from within the community. Junior instructors, are primarily responsible for providing assistance to our fulltime instructors and helping to fill in teaching gaps, should an instructor need to be absent from class. Positions at this level are based on abilities, commitment, sportsmanship, positive attitude, personality, and ongoing participation in dance training and performance.
It has been our experience that students of all ages have an incredible interest for dance and physical activity. As a result, more than 70 dance classes are taught at the studio every week to a combination of both fulltime and part-time students. Weekly classes offered include acro, ballet, belly dance, hip hop, jazz, lyrical, modern, musical theatre, pointe, tap, technique, and Zumba.
Classes are available for students aged two years old to adult, from beginner to advanced, with either performing or non-performing interests. Enrollment options include classes that last for the full dance season or sessions that run for six consecutive weeks.
For the serious students, the studio has a Competitive Dance Team that regularly participates in public performances and travels to out-of town festivals and competitions. The team, which traditionally consists of about 125 dancers, has delivered numerous award-winning performances at both the regional and provincial levels.
In Sequins is known for its contemporary moves, using popular music, delivering dynamic classes, creating applause-filled performances, choosing appealing and appropriate costumes, and offering a challenging experience that students of all ages enjoy.
